چکیده

Abstract The hygienic behavior in honey bees is a complex polygenic trait that serves as natural defense mechanism against bacterial and fungal brood diseases Varroa destructor mites infesting cells. aim of this study was to evaluate the effect dietary amino acids vitamins supplement “BEEWELL AminoPlus” on Apis mellifera colonies combating microsporidial viral infections. experiment performed during one-year period 40 alloted five groups: one supplemented infected with Nosema ceranae four viruses (Deformed wing virus - DWV, Acute bee paralysis ABPV, Chronic CBPV Sacbrood – SBV), three not supplemented, but N. and/ or viruses, negative control group. Beside l isted pathogens, trypanosomatids were also monitored all groups. induced significant consistent increase spite effects significantly consistently decreased behavior, threatened survival colonies. tested showed anti- effect, since infection level declined only Among groups, remained Lotmaria passim -free throughout study. In conclusion, diet supplementation enhances helps them fight most common infections bees.

Varroa destructor infestation in untreated honey bee (Hymenoptera: Apidae) colonies selected for hygienic behavior.

Honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) colonies bred for hygienic behavior were tested in a large field trial to determine if they were able to resist the parasitic mite Varroa destructor better than unselected colonies of"Starline" stock. Colonies bred for hygienic behavior are able to detect, uncap, and remove experimentally infested brood from the nest, although the extent to which the behavior actua...

Pathogen Webs in Collapsing Honey Bee Colonies

Recent losses in honey bee colonies are unusual in their severity, geographical distribution, and, in some cases, failure to present recognized characteristics of known disease. Domesticated honey bees face numerous pests and pathogens, tempting hypotheses that colony collapses arise from exposure to new or resurgent pathogens. Here we explore the incidence and abundance of currently known hone...

No Genetic Tradeoffs between Hygienic Behaviour and Individual Innate Immunity in the Honey Bee, Apis mellifera

Many animals have individual and social mechanisms for combating pathogens. Animals may exhibit short-term physiological tradeoffs between social and individual immunity because the latter is often energetically costly. Genetic tradeoffs between these two traits can also occur if mutations that enhance social immunity diminish individual immunity, or vice versa. Physiological tradeoffs between ...

Honey Bee Colonies Remote Monitoring System

Bees are very important for terrestrial ecosystems and, above all, for the subsistence of many crops, due to their ability to pollinate flowers. Currently, the honey bee populations are decreasing due to colony collapse disorder (CCD). The reasons for CCD are not fully known, and as a result, it is essential to obtain all possible information on the environmental conditions surrounding the beeh...
